OTT giant Disney+ Hotstar had a number of interesting releases in the month of December 2021. The list includes ‘Aarya Season 2’, ‘Hawkeye’, and ‘Atrangi Re’, amongst others. Likewise, there are several films and shows geared up to stream on the OTT platform in the first half of January. We have compiled a list of the top five titles which are slated to release from 1st January 2022 to 15th January 2022.
Abbott Elementary (Streaming from 5th January)
Created by Quinta Brunson, the mockumentary comedy series features Quinta Brunson in the role of a teacher named Janine Teagues at the Philadelphia-based titular public school named Abbott Elementary. Janine has recently joined the underfunded school as a second-grade teacher and the show narrates Janine and her fellow teachers’ endeavors to guide students to excel in their lives despite the odds.
The Book of Boba Fett E2/E3 (Streaming from 5th / 12th January)
‘The Book of Boba Fett’ is a spin-off show from the Pedro Pascal starrer widely acclaimed series ‘The Mandalorian’ and a part of the immensely popular Star Wars franchise. The show features Temuera Morrison as an armored bounty hunter Boba Fett alongside Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, a top-grade assassin. Together they explore the galaxy’s underworld and endeavor to seize their stake over the territory previously controlled by Jabba the Hutt – an erstwhile but now deceased powerful crime lord.
Anbarivu (Streaming from 7th January)
The film follows the lives of the titular twins namely Anbu and Arivu (played by Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi) who are brought up with a drastically different upbringing after they are separated. Things take an interesting turn when the twin brothers are forced to switch their lives.
Eternals (Streaming from 12th January)
‘Eternals’ is a Marvel superhero movie helmed by Academy award-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao featuring a star-studded cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, etc. The film features a team of immortal superheroes called Eternals who have been secretly living on Earth with humans for thousands of years. However, after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, they must come out of hiding and use their special powers to protect mankind from powerful ancient beings called Deviants.
Human (Streaming from 14th January)
Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh, ‘Human’ is a medical thriller web series ostensibly based on the scarcely touched-upon subject of human drug trials. The show features acclaimed actress Shefali Shah as Dr. Gauri Nath – a legendary surgeon and her protégé Dr. Saira Sabharwal (played by Kirti Kulhari). Its underlying premise seems to be based on human trials related to a heart disease miracle drug called S-93R.
