James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is all set to arrive in theatres including India on 16th December – thirteen years after its path breaking prequel ‘Avatar’ (2009). Besides the ‘Avatar’ films, the maverick filmmaker has also directed some other fine films. 5. True Lies, 1994 (Not streaming in India)
The underappreciated action-comedy movie follows a daredevil secret agent Harry (Arnold Schwarzenegger), whose ignored wife Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis) is totally unaware of his dual life. Harry must resolve his marital problems and his wife’s suspected infidelity while dealing with a dangerous terrorist, who is hellbent on widespread destruction.
4. Avatar, 2009 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Set in the 22nd century, the visually stunning sci-fi flick follows a disabled former Marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), who is sent as an Avatar to an incredible moon called Pandora, which is inhabited by the evolved Na’vi race. After reaching there, Jake falls in love with a Na’vi woman Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Now, he must choose between his mission and his new world which is on the verge of being exterminated by a ruthless Colonel (Stephen Lang).
3. Titanic, 1997 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Set amidst the backdrop of the ill-fated maiden journey of the British passenger liner Titanic, the disaster film revolves around the relationship between an impoverished artist Jack (Leonardo Di Caprio) and a rich aristocrat Rose (Kate Winslet). But their love story is hampered when a massive iceberg hits the seemingly unsinkable ship. The movie also featured Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, and Bill Paxton, amongst others.
2. Aliens, 1986 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
The film is a sequel to Ridley Scott’s cult sci-fi horror film ‘Alien’. The movie takes place 57 years after Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) survived the horrifying alien attack which killed her entire team. A salvage crew finds Ripley’s life pod, and now she must team up with a Colonial Marines unit to investigate lost contact with a human colony where she first encountered the deadly alien species.
1. The Terminator, 1984 / Terminator 2, 1991: Judgement Day (Not Streaming in India)
The first ‘Terminator’ was the film that made James Cameron a global sensation. The story follows an unstoppable cyborg killing machine (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who is sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), future mother of a charismatic leader John Connor. In the sequel, two Terminators (Arnold and Robert Patrick) are sent back in time. The first Terminator’s mission is to kill John Connor (Edward Furlong) while the second Terminator’s mission is to protect him.
