The much anticipated season finale of ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ dropped and it didn’t disappoint. The brilliant TV series ended on a high note with quite a few twists and turns within the sixth episode. The only sad part is, we have to wait for another couple of months before the next Marvel project (‘Loki’) drops on the OTT platform. For now, check out these 8 easter eggs, callbacks and references shown in the final episode:
Captain America
Cap is back. And it is the one we have all been waiting for – Sam Wilson. In a brilliant new suit, with an upgrade for his wings, Sam Wilson flies in with the shield within the first ten minutes of the episode. The red, white and blue suits Sam more than it did Walker. Even Red Wing got a couple of upgrades. The Captain gets a lot of work done in this episode and it was quite epic.
John Walker’s Redemption and U.S. Agent
Surprise, surprise. The one person we didn’t expect to get a redemption arc was Walker. But he does get one here. He decides to save the people who stripped him of his title of Captain America rather than go after the woman who killed his best friend. At least, he tried to anyway. He finally understands the weight of the mantle of Captain America now and how it is not exactly a beloved figure around the world, as he thought it was.
Val has come back again and has given him a new codename – U.S. Agent. A character based on the comics, we expect to see John real soon, hopefully in the upcoming ‘Black Widow’ film. If not, then maybe in the ‘Hawkeye’ series.
Bucky Puts In The Work
Bucky saves some of the GRC members and finally tells Nakajima about what happened to his son. He completed the list and you can see a difference in Bucky towards the end of this episode. We expect to be seeing a very different Bucky in the MCU from now on.
The Powerbroker
Okay, we did not see this coming. Sharon Carter is the Powerbroker. We know she was into some shady stuff since the third episode, but this reveal was so epic, we had to pause for a few seconds to let it sink in. She killed Karli, who was moments away from killing Sam, but now we wonder why – was it so she could save Sam or so Karli wouldn’t reveal her identity? Guess we will just have to wait and find out.
Sam’s Speech
Everything Sam has been talking about – with Bucky, Isaiah, Karli, John, Sarah among others, had been leading up to this moment. He stood up to the GRC council in front of national television and told them they have the power of Thanos, they just need to know if they are willing to wield it in the right way.
Similar to how Killmonger’s death influenced Wakandan policy, Karli’s death had a change to the GRC policy as well, and it was thanks to Captain America. We will likely see its effects in the coming MCU projects.
Zemo’s Last Word
Of course, Zemo wasn’t going to go out quietly. He may be stuck on “The Raft” (Nice callback), but he got his butler to kill off the remaining Flag Smashers during transport. This will probably not be the last time we see him either.
Isaiah Bradley
Isaiah has been through a lot. He bled for his country, saved his fellow countrymen and got punished for it in the end. Sam has started the motion to set things right – found a way to honour him and show his sacrifice to the rest of the world. Isaiah is starting to believe in Sam Wilson.
End Credit Scene: Agent Carter is Back
Sam kept his word and got Sharon her pardon. Only, it doesn’t look like that was a good idea. Sharon continues her dealings as the Powerbroker and this pardon just expanded her base of operations to the US. Maybe she might be more of a grey character, which will keep her interesting, but Sharon as a villain will still be a brilliant addition to the MCU. Maybe we might get some Val vs Sharon action later down the line.
The miniseries ‘The Falcon and The Winter Solider’ is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
