Top Gun: Maverick is less than a month away from its global theatrical release. But moviegoers have already started generating immense hype about the upcoming Tom Cruise starrer. Thanks to its spectacular premiere at this year’s CinemaCon. Early fan reactions are hailing the ‘Top Gun’ sequel as ‘the perfect blockbuster’.
Paramount Pictures commenced the developmental process for a possible ‘Top Gun’ follow-up in 2010, back when the helmer of the original 1986 movie, Tony Scott, was still alive. But Scott’s suicide forced the production house to put a halt on the project. However, producer Jerry Bruckheimer remained in touch with Tom Cruise because of the latter’s interest in the sequel. Ultimately, the actor revealed the film’s title in 2017, ‘Top Gun: Maverick”. Joseph Kosinski was hired to helm the project a month later.
Brian Robbins, the president of Paramount Pictures, started off the sequel’s screening and hailed Tom Cruise as the most daring actor in Hollywood. However, the on-screen Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell didn’t attend the screening. But he did leave a recorded message for all the fans at the event which was played before the film, “Please enjoy, and, hey, let’s try to have a great summer!”
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ takes place nearly thirty years after the events of the first film. Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell refuses a promotion because of his immeasurable love for flying. Out of nowhere, he gets selected to train a bunch of Top Gun graduates for a highly dangerous mission as per the orders of Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, Pete’s former rival. Among the group of trainees, there is Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, son of Pete’s late best friend, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw.
Apart from Tom Cruise, the cast of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ treasures Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer, and many more. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical dispatch on May 27th. Stay tuned for more updates.
