Remember when Christopher Nolan called streaming services evil because films don’t have any certainty about their being? Well, another shift is about to take place.
“Top Gun: Maverick,” the roaring Blockbuster starring Tom Cruise from 2022 will fly from Prime Video to Netflix. The actor reprised his iconic role as Maverick. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film takes flight as a sequel to the 1986 classic, “Top Gun.” Maverick, a seasoned naval aviator, faces his past while mentoring a new generation of Top Gun graduates, including the son of his late best friend, in preparation for a perilous mission.
Critics lauded the film, often deeming it superior to the original. The narrative’s depth and Cruise’s stellar performance drew acclaim. At the 95th Academy Awards, “Top Gun: Maverick” earned six nominations, clinching the Best Sound category. The National Board of Review recognised it as the Best Film, and the American Film Institute listed it among the top-ten films of 2022.
Paramount Pictures released the film in the United States on May 27, 2022, grossing a massive $1.496 billion worldwide. Notably, this made it the second-highest-grossing film of 2022 and the highest-grossing in Tom Cruise’s esteemed career.
For those who missed the theatrical experience, “Top Gun: Maverick” is currently available for streaming on Prime Video. However, fans should act swiftly, as the film is set to depart the platform in just 10 days. A new destination awaits, with Netflix India set to welcome Maverick and his crew on December 22, 2023.
