To say that 2024 is going to be an entertaining year for cinephiles across the globe would be an understatement. Besides some major standalone releases, there are several eagerly anticipated sequels waiting to be released next year. Let’s see what Hollywood has to offer in 2024 as far as big-ticket sequels are concerned. We have written these titles in release dates order and have excluded animated films for this list.
Dune: Part Two
The much-anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 star-studded science fiction movie ‘Dune’ is set to be released on 1st March 2024. Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ sequel will also feature new cast members namely Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken besides Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Zendaya and Javier Bardem.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ sequel starring Paul Rudd was postponed to 29th March 2024. The horror comedy movie sequel will focus on how the old and new Ghostbusters team up again to a chilling new threat in New York City.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
The monster film is a sequel to the 2021 film ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’. In the sequel, the two titular creatures will team up to face a formidable enemy and it will be released on 12th April 2024.
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
Despite mixed feedback, Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi flick ‘Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire’ attracted a whopping 24 million views during the first three days on Netflix. So, the curiosity around its sequel ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver’ will also be high. The sequel will be released on 19th April 2024.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
The fourth installment of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ reboot film series will be set around 300 years following the events shown in the 2017 film ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’. The sequel will be released on 24th May 2024.
Bad Boys 4
The yet- fourth installment of the popular buddy action film series will have Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their earlier roles and is slated to be released in theatres on 14th June 2024.
Twisters
The big budget sequel to the blockbuster 1996 disaster film ‘Twister’ will be released on 19th July 2024. The sequel’s plotline will revolve around Helen Hunt’s Jo Harding’s character and her daughter with Dr. Bill Harding who has also become a storm-chaser like her mother and father.
Deadpool 3
After the massive successes of the first two Deadpool films, the third installment of the superhero franchise will be released in theatres on 26th July 2024. The major enticing factor about the sequel is the addition of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine / Logan. Fans are curious about the on-screen chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s characters.
Joker: Folie a Deux
Initially intended to be a standalone movie, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning psychological thriller film ‘Joker’ was confirmed in 2023 by Todd Phillips. The movie is set to be released on 4th October 2024. Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as the titular protagonist Arthur Fleck / Joker and the role of Harley Quinn will be played by Lady Gaga.
Smile 2
The yet-untitled sequel to the 2022 psychological horror movie is scheduled to be released on 18th October 2024. It will feature Naomi Scott in the main role.
Venom 3
After the box office successes of superhero movie ‘Venom’ and its sequel ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’, Sony and Marvel are now gearing up for the third ‘Venom’ movie. The yet-untitled sequel is slated for a theatrical release on 8th November 2024. Alongside Tom Hardy in the lead role, ‘Venom 3’ also features ‘Ted Lasso’ star Juno Temple and British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Gladiator 2
The yet-untitled ‘Gladiator’ sequel will revolve around Paul Mescal, who will play the role of Lucilla’s son Lucius and Commodus’s nephew. It is directed by Ridley Scott and also features Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Barry Keoghan, Connie Nielsen and Joseph Quinn, amongst others. It is expected to be released on 22nd November 2024.
The Karate Kid New Movie
Globally popular veteran actor and martial artist Jackie Chan is all set for his return for a brand-new Karate Kid movie which will also feature the parent film’s lead actor Ralph Macchio. The movie is expected to be released on 13th December 2024.
