Friday is invariably an exciting day for OTT viewers and today is no exception. Some eagerly anticipated Indian and foreign films and series have already been or will be released today as well on various Indian OTT platforms. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top streaming titles (in no particular order) that are already out or will be out on Indian OTT platforms today.
The Kashmir Files (Streaming on Zee5)
The movie revolves around the sensitive subject matter pertaining to the exodus of Kashmiris Hindus, also known as Kashmiri Pandits, during the 1990s period in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Narrated in two timelines, the film’s plot follows a Kashmiri Hindu college student named Krishna (Darshan Kumar).
After his parents are killed, he is adopted by schoolteacher Pushkar Nath (Anupam Kher). Eventually, Krishna sets out to find the truth about his family’s death. The film also features veteran actors Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in important roles.
Modern Love Mumbai (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
Inspired by the popular New York Times column, the Mumbai chapter of the ‘Modern Love’ series will showcase six heart-warming stories based on various love forms such as romantic, self-love, parental, marital, etc. The short segments are ‘Raat Rani’ (by Shonali Bose), ‘Baai’ (by Hansal Mehta), ‘Mumbai Dragon’ (Vishal Bhardwaj), ‘My Beautiful Wrinkles’ (by Alankrita Shrivastava), ‘I Love Thane’ (by Dhruv Sehgal), and ‘Cutting Chai’ (by Nupur Asthana).
The series features an ensemble cast that includes Fatima Sana Shaikh, Chitrangada Singh, Arshad Warsi, Pratik Gandhi, Ritwik Bhowmik, Meiyang Chang, Naseeruddin Shah, Tanuja, Sarika, and Prateik Babbar, amongst others.
Puzhu (Streaming on SonyLIV)
Helmed by Ratheena PT, ‘Puzhu’ is a crime thriller movie starring veteran actor Mammootty in the lead role. The film revolves around the relationship between a disciplinarian father and his son. The plot takes an interesting turn when the son gets involved in an accident. Mammootty is ostensibly essaying a greyish character in the film.
Ambulance (Rent on Amazon Prime Video)
Helmed by Michael Bay, ‘Ambulance’ is a heist thriller in which Jake Gyllenhaal essays the role of a hardened criminal Danny, who comes up with a plan to rob a bank with his brother William Sharp (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who portrays a war veteran in desperate need of money for his wife’s operation. But things soon go awry, and the two robbers steal an ambulance with a paramedic and a critically injured cop.
Mahabharat Murders (Streaming on Hoichoi)
Directed by Soumik Haldar, the web series is based on Arnab Ray’s novel of the same name. The story is an interesting spin-off of the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. The plot takes place in present-day Kolkata and follows the story of a man who claims to be a modern-day reincarnation of the epic’s antagonist Duryodhan.
The character is on the hunt for the remaining Pandavas – Arjun, Bheem, and Yudhishthir after killing his Draupadi, Nakul, and Sahadeva. Will the cops be able to catch him in time?
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 1 (Streaming on Netflix)
The ten-part legal drama series follows an idealistic but troubled LA-based criminal defense lawyer Mickey Haller (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), who runs his office from inside his Lincoln Town Car. He grabs an opportunity to revive his career after he unexpectedly gets a high-profile murder case. The series is based on Michael Connelly’s book ‘The Brass Verdict’.
The Worst Person in the World (Streaming on Mubi)
The Oscar-nominated Norwegian dark dramedy follows a span of four years in the life of a young woman named Julie (played by Renate Reinsve) in contemporary Oslo. Narrated in twelve chapters, the film’s story revolves around Julie’s professional pursuits and personal relationships. During these years of uncertainty, Julie contemplates her life choices and what kind of person she wants to become in life.
The Essex Serpent (Streaming on Apple TV Plus)
The series is based on British author Sarah Perry’s 2016 novel of the same name. The show features ‘Homeland’ star Claire Danes as a London-based widow who travels to Essex and forms a relationship with a local pastor (Tom Hiddleston), while investigating a mythical creature called the Essex Serpent.
Ordeal by Innocence (Streaming on SonyLIV)
Based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name, the three-part series revolves around the murder of an affluent heiress Rachel Argyll. Her adopted son Jack Argyll is arrested for the murder which he claims he did not commit. Months later, when there is a doubt about the murderer’s identity, the family members investigate to find the real culprit who might be amongst them.
Oruthee (Streaming on Manorama Max)
Helmed by V.K. Prakash and based on a true story, the drama thriller revolves around a Kochi-based female boat ticket collector named Radhamani (played by Navya Nair). Her life takes an adverse turn after her daughter falls ill and she takes a gold loan against a necklace but gets deceived in the process. How she fights back in life with the help of a good cop, forms the rest of the film’s plot.
The Kids in the Hall (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The eight-part first Canadian Amazon original series marks the revival of the popular sketch comedy show and will feature the comeback of the original ‘Kids’. The show is a follow-up to the series which spanned five seasons, that aired in the 1980s and 90s.
Sneakerella (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Set in New York City, the musical comedy movie is a modern take on the classic Cinderella story. The film’s plot follows an aspiring sneaker designer named El, who lives with his stepfather and two mean stepbrothers. After he falls in love with Kira King, a sneaker-loving daughter of a famous basketball star, he gathers the courage to follow his dream of becoming a professional sneaker designer.
Taledanda (Streaming on Zee5)
The Kannada drama movie narrates a tale that touches upon the subject of the nature vs man conflict amidst the back of modernization and present climatic conditions. The story is told from the perspective of a nature-loving but intellectually challenged protagonist Kunna (Sanchari Vijay).
Blank (Streaming on Voot)
Helmed by engineer turned filmmaker S. Jay, the Kannada language thriller movie follows a group of friends who get addicted to a mysterious drug that blurs the line between reality and dreams.
Lock Down (Streaming on Zee5)
The Bengali language drama film revolves around six characters who belong to different strata of society and are struggling in different ways in their lives. On the day the lockdown is declared, their stories somehow intersect in the same hospital.
Senior Year (Streaming on Netflix)
The film’s story follows a 20-year-old high-school student Stephanie Conway, who meets with a serious accident during a cheerleading act. As a result, she goes into a coma and wakes up after 20 years. Now 37 years old, Stephanie decides to enroll in high school and fulfill her dream of becoming the prom queen.
