Tovino Thomas’ ‘Kala’ Unavailable On Prime, No Word From Streamer Yet

The much-anticipated, violent Malayalam thriller ‘Kala‘ released on Amazon Prime Video yesterday, on 20th May 2021. Like any other hit Malayalam movies running in theatres at the time (‘Nayattu’, ‘Nizhal’, etc.), ‘Kala’ too took the OTT route after the Kerala State Government set a State-wide lockdown for three weeks. So under the circumstances, the film’s switch to a streaming platform is understandable. But now, the Malayalam psychological thriller seems to be not available for streaming on the OTT platform itself.

For the past couple of hours (which is when we started checking), ‘Kala’ has been shown as unavailable on the streaming giant. There has been no official word from Amazon Prime yet, but since we haven’t noticed any “noise” on any social media platforms yet, we believe that this issue is fairly recent. It could very well be a glitch we hasn’t been noticed by the platform but there could be other reasons why it is currently not streaming on the OTT platform.

Tovino Thomas‘ ‘Kala’ is an A-Rated Malayalam films, one of the few Malayalam films that has come out for the general public with such a rating, in recent years. The movie is known for its brilliantly authentic fight scenes, but the violence and sex scene in the movie make up the majority of the A-rating portion, which might have cause many Malayali subscribers to lodge complaints. OTTs like Amazon Prime Video only provides a standard 18+ rating/ Adult rating at the beginning of a film, which would not deter under-age children or teenagers from viewing the movie.

This movie will needed to be added to the adult section of the library (which can be locked from children for viewing) before the film is allowed for viewing again. This could likely be one of the major reasons why ‘Kala’ is not streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Keep in mind, this could very well be a glitch issue and we could probably watch the film by the time you have finished reading this article. For now, you will have to wait and see.
