Amazon Prime Video has just dropped an extremely relatable trailer for their new anthology film ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’, set to release exclusively on Prime Video on October 16th 2020.
Five celebrated directors of the Tamil film industry – Sudha Kongara, Gautham Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratman, Rajiv Menon, and Karthik Subbaraj have directed the five short films in this latest anthology film. This movie will feature stories of love, new beginnings, second chances and a glimmer of hope, all set and filmed in the times of the Covid-19 lockdown.
The trailer kicks off with a very familiar line “Modi has announced a 21-day lockdown for the country”. Followed by a quick montage, we see the character portrayed by Urvashi looking for confirmation by asking “21 days?”, to which Jayaram’s character repeats back the same words, ominously. We immediately get a jubilant cry of “21 days” by a young couple, which mirrors most of our initial happiness when the lockdown was announced.
An older woman turning 75 who is stuck in the ICU of a hospital, a musician stuck in her recording studio, a young woman shifting back to her grandfather’s house and a woman staying at a stranger’s house after her bike breaks down are a few storylines shown in this extensive trailer. Themes of love are also conveyed through another short montage.
The video shows the low point of people’s lives during the pandemic and a group of young men discussing a potential robbery as a result. We then get a quick mashup of mantages of different characters going through various highs and lows, some funny and some tragic, but a heartfelt sequence of events nonetheless. Eventually the trailer ends with a beautiful line – “Lockdown is over grandpa. It’s time to go outside”.
An anthology of stories regarding the Covid pandemic and its subsequent lockdown will be a good crowd-pleaser, as many people will have gone through similar situations and seeing a version of it on screen could prove to be cathartic to many. This film has a stellar cast in Jayaram, Urvashi ,Kalidas Jayaram, Kalyani Priyadarshan, M S Baaskar, Ritu Varma, Shruti Haasan, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Anu Hasan, Kathadi Ramamurthy, Komalam Charuhasan, Andrea Jeremiah, Gurucharan C, Leela Samson, Simha, Sharath Ravi and K Muthukumar.
Putham Pudhu Kaalai is set to release on October 16th on Amazon Prime Video. Watch the trailer for this film down below:
