Comedy series Amrutham has enjoyed the status of a legend in the annals of Telugu television history. Its six-year reign was unprecedented for the popularity and love of the audiences that it commanded. And so, when fans heard about the impending sequel to the series, titled Amrutham Dvitheeyam, they were delirious with delight. The show is poised to stream as a web series on ZEE5 Telugu, the trailer for which has just been released by the streaming platform.
The trailer shows actor Harsh Vardhan taking up his role of Amrutham Rao, from where he left off all those years ago. He and his partner in crime Anji, played by actor LB Sriram, who replaces the late comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao in the role, reopen their restaurant, Amrutham Vilas, with the help of new investors.
One thing we noticed in the trailer was that Harsh Vardhan doesn’t look a day older than his original outing as Amrutham. It’s like the intervening years never happened. Though Gundu Hanumantha Rao will be acutely missed as Anji in the new series, L.B. Sriram looks perfect for the part he’s taken up. He makes a cute and adorable chef, especially when he’s whipping up delicacies or interacting with the investors. His timing and delivery of the punch lines appear perfect.
Most of the cast reprises their roles from the original, including Vasu Inturi as Sarvam, Ragini as Santha and Shivannarayana as Appaji. Late actor Devadas Kanakala’s character of Amrutham’s father-in-law is taken up by Kasi Vishwanath, and he looks good in the part too. Satya Krishnan takes over the role of Amrutham’s wife Sanjeevani.
Creator of the show Gunnam Gangaraju will play only an advisory role in the production of the sequel. Most of the direction will be handled by his son, Sandeep Gunnam.
Amrutham Dvitheeyam premieres on ZEE5 Telugu on 25th March. Have a look at the trailer of Amrutham Dvitheeyam below –
