Trailer Talk: Kabaddi And Rajkummar Rao Take A Leap Of Faith In Amazon’s Chhalaang

By Binged Bureau - Oct 17, 2020 @ 04:10 pm

Hansal Mehta is on a high right now. His Scam 1992 on SonyLIV has received massive appreciation from all quarters – critics, audiences and industry folks – a coveted recognition for any filmmaker worth their salt. But the downside of all that adulation is that expectations have hit the roof for his next release – which happens to be the Rajkummar Rao starrer, Chhalaang, releasing directly on OTT, on Amazon Prime Video on 13th November. But going by the trailer of Chhalaang, which just landed on Amazon Prime Video‘s social media, Hansal Mehta is assured a hit in Chhalaang.

For one, Chhalaang features a plot that is has all the feel good vibes of a Lagaan, Chak De India or Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar – all uplifting films that featured sports and the spirit of competitiveness. Kabaddi is the sport of choice in Hansal Mehta’s Chhalaang – a sport that lends itself superbly to tough contests and interesting rivalry.

Montu Sir (Rajkummar Rao) is a laid back sports teacher in a government funded school. And like all government school teachers, teaching the kids in his care is the least of his worries. Until a hard-nosed sports teacher Singh Sir (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) becomes his superior at school. To add insult to injury, he is about to lose his love (Nushrratt Bharuccha) and his job to the fit as a fiddle Singh.

The trailer teases how Montu throws down the gauntlet, challenging Singh Sir to a Kabaddi match between teams trained by the two sports teachers. There is no glimpse of the actual match in the trailer, leaving it as a crucial suspense for viewers, to be enjoyed when Chhalaang premieres on Amazon Prime Video. However, we get to see Rajkummar Rao’s Montu Sir in full training mode, along with his motley team. The Haryanvi dialect used by the actors is fun to hear, and sounds perfectly authentic to the ears.

Judging by the 3-minute trailer, Chhalaang is certainly a movie to watch out for!

Chhalaang stars Rajkummar Rao and Nushrratt Bharuccha as leads, along with Saurabh Shukla, Ila Arun and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles. It has been directed by Hansal Mehta, written by Luv Ranjan, Aseem Arrora, and Zeishan Quadri, and produced by Luv Ranjan, Ajay Devgn and Ankur Garg.

Chhalaang premieres on Amazon Prime Video on 13th November. Have a glimpse of the official trailer of Chhalaang here –
