Kaley Cuoco is back, in an epic new television series ‘The Flight Attendant’. This HBO Max web-series is based off the thriller novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian, which was released in 2018. This will be Cuoco’s first major television production after the hit series ‘Big Bang Theory’ ended last year.
The trailer for the mini-series dropped a few hours ago, and a few seconds in, you know that this is not the laugh-track comedy sitcom genre we are used to seeing Cuoco in. The teaser kicks off with us being introduced to Cuoco’s character Cassandra Bowden, who is a “slightly flighty” flight attendant (pun-intended) who is currently flying overseas on an aircraft. She talks about meeting an enigmatic passenger, Alex (portrayed by Michiel Huisman), as a voiceover over the montage of clips. She becomes attracted to Alex after talking with him.
They both have sex on the plane and then the two of them get off at Bangkok together. They enjoy the entire day together and then go back to Alex’s hotel room after the night ends. She wakes up the next day hungover and gets up to look at the skyline in the hotel room which she had missed the night before. The next shot sees her focusing on her hand- its side covered in blood. She looks back at the bed, to see Alex dead.
At this point, the shot changes to Cassandra sitting in a black room being interrogated by FBI agents. The voiceover she had been giving earlier was her talking to the agents about how she had met Alex. She tells them the truth till she finds Alex dead, to which she says, he was “so alive”. The next shot shows Alex talking to Cassandra as a figment of her imagination, driving her nuts.
Back in the hotel room, unable to remember the night before, Cassandra panics and starts cleaning up the hotel room, including the murder weapon. She recounts the entire incident to her best friend and when asked about why she cleaned the room, she says that she doesn’t know. With flickers of memories of the night before, Cassandra thinks that there might be a chance she herself might be the killer.
The trailer then shows a variety of shots, ranging from her panicking and finding herself at multiple seedy and suspicious places, while the FBI continues to investigate and trail her. She decided to try and find out what kind of businesses Alex was into, with “him” tagging along with her for the ride.
Cuoco had optioned the production rights for the book through her production company, Yes, Norman Productions in October 2017. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Steve Yockey, Meredith Lavender, Marcie Ulin and Susanna Fogel joined the project as executive producers. Michelle Gomez, Colin Woodell, Rosie Perez, Zosia Mamet, Merle Dandridge, Griffin Matthews, T. R. Knight and Nolan Gerard Funk all star in this HBO mini series with prominent roles.
‘The Flight Attendant’ will stream on HBOMax on November 26th 2020. Watch the trailer down below:
