Trailer Talk: Mentalhood Comes Across as a Worthy Vehicle for the Digital Debut of Karisma Kapoor

ZEE5 and ALTBalaji’s Mentalhood has generated considerable buzz amongst netizens for two reasons – one is its stellar ensemble cast; and the other is its premise.

The series marks the digital debut of Karisma Kapoor, along with showcasing consummate performers such as Sandhya Mridul, Shilpa Shukla, Shruti Seth, Tillotama Shome, Sanjay Suri and Dino Morea in pivotal roles.

The trailer that dropped today expounded on the roles of each. If one is a helicopter mom whose kids must always come out tops (Sandhya Mridul), another is a working mom who is proud of the fact that for her, both domains are a cakewalk (Shilpa Shukla). The other moms are equally batty and quirky. Oh yes, there’s also a father in the bunch – Dino Morea, being the perfect father and every woman’s dream husband. Except, his wife is nowhere to be seen.

Karisma Kapoor’s character comes across as the most harried of the bunch. She is constantly on edge — comparing, calculating quantifying — her worth as a mother, and her mothering skills. And most of the time, she falls short – in her own eyes. Put together, this motley crew covers every aspect of motherhood – both good and bad – proving beyond doubt that motherhood is better off described as Mentalhood!

The trailer, more than three minutes in length, is alternatively deliriously happy and agonisingly sad. It brings to the fore the perils of motherhood in a frank and forthright way, piquing our curiosity about the narrative of Mentalhood and the direction it takes.

Mentalhood premieres on ZEE5 and ALTBalaji on 11th March, right after the International Women’s Day.
