MX Player has just dropped the trailer of its upcoming web series called ‘Ek Thi Begum‘. All episodes of the series will release on 8th April. The trailer of the series is packed with explosive drama, action and thrill, giving ample indication of the premise of the show.
The series is set in 1986, in the backdrop of the Mumbai that was racked by underworld gangwars. The trailer begins by introducing us to the diverse characters that make up the primary storyline. Ashraf, aka Sapna, is the loving wife of Zaheer, the right hand man of underworld don, Maqsood. Things go wrong between the two, Zaheer branches out on his own, becoming Maqsood’s arch rival, and is ultimately killed.
Ashraf vows revenge, and the rest of the story hinges on how she uses a blend of her sensuality and shrewdness to extract her revenge, taking on the pseudo-identity of Sapna, a bar dancer.
The trailer features hard-hitting sequences that are gripping and action-packed. Even in its short run-time of two and a half minutes, we get a glimpse of the seedy underbelly of Mumbai, far removed from the glitz and glamour we usually associate with it. Apart from the Mumbai gangwars, the series also depicts the unholy politician-police-criminal nexus which was rampant in those days.
The frames are awash in predominantly dark and dreary colours. The entire series seems to have been shot in a palette of dark colours — there’s not a hint of cheerfully bright colours. The effect is unsettling, if not outright disturbing. Blood and gore make their presence felt, as do lovemaking scenes.
After Bhaukaal and Mannphodganj Ki Binny, Ek Thi Begum seems to be the next hit from MX Player’s stables. The series stars Anuja Sathe in the titular role, along with Chinmay Mandlekar, Ankit Mohan, Santosh Juvekar, Abhijeet Chavan, Rajendra Shisatkar and Vijay Nikam in supporting characters. Ek Thi Begum is created, written and directed by Sachin Darekar.
Ek Thi Begum premieres on MX Player on 8th April. Have a look at the trailer here –
