Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming Hindi original film ‘AK vs AK’ through live streaming on Netflix India’s YouTube channel. The leads of the film, Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, could be seen getting involved in a war of words during the live stream that they carried forward from twitter. Netflix also revealed that ‘AK vs AK‘ will premiere on the platform on 24th December 2020.
While we all know it’s part of the film’s promotional strategies, the banter between the two could easily be mistaken to be real. The trailer for ‘AK vs AK’ begins with Kashyap and Kapoor doing an interview together where one thing leads to another and the former ends up throwing water on the latter’s face.
Kashyap and Kapoor play themselves in the movie and the film is based on a real interesting concept. After the incident at the interview, Kashyap narrates a film’s script to Kapoor where he explains to him that the film will be made in real time where he plays himself and searches for his daughter, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, who has been kidnapped.
Kapoor is given a 10 hour time limit to search for Sonam and everything that happens during that time will happen for real. He also introduces him to the three rules, first, he cannot call the police; second he cannot involve any outsider; and third the camera would not stop rolling even if Yamraj (God of Death) walks into the frame.
Though Kashyap makes it appear like a film shoot, it looks like he is taking some sort of revenge as he warns him that anything can happen to his daughter. What follows is a desperate father searching for his daughter, a few fight scenes and small cameos from Boney Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor.
Towards the end, after getting into a fist fight with Kashyap when Kapoor goes to the police for help, Kashyap makes it look like a scene from the movie. The police too believes that it’s all part of the shoot and praises Kapoor for a brilliant performance.
Netflix’s ‘AK vs AK’ has been shot in a unique way where it really feels like watching a film within a film. The double overlapping of fiction and reality though looks like an intriguing concept, it can very easily get confusing. It will be interesting to see whether it amazes the audience or becomes a too much of a hotchpotch.
As per Netflix’s official synopsis of ‘AK vs AK’, “A visionary director, an old school actor, and a camera rolling for 10 hours. Anurag Kashyap, Indian cinema’s enfant terrible, kidnaps Sonam Kapoor and films her father, the evergreen, Anil Kapoor’s search for his daughter in real-time, as his next blockbuster.”
