What happens when rakshasas, aka demons, embrace technology, along with their magical powers? Netflix‘s latest Bollywood release, ‘Cargo’ happens. The just released trailer of Cargo gives us a glimpse into a futuristic scenario where the age-old concepts of birth, death and rebirths are tackled with clinical precision – on a spaceship named Pushpak 634A!
A demon called Prahastha (Vikrant Massey), who looks more like your everyday white collar worker, manages births and deaths on earth, in a department called ‘Post Death Transition services’. Prahastha has the most important task at hand – recycling dead people for rebirth. He gives us a ringside view of how he goes about the process. He first heals the dead people, erases their memories and re-programmes them for a new birth on earth.
Unable to handle all the work on his own, Prahastha gets a new assistant, Yuvishka Shekhar, (Shweta Tripathi Sharma), to assist him in preparing the dead to undergo the transition to a new life.
The trailer implies that Cargo is a refreshing and humorous take on the Hindu belief of reincarnation, in the garb of a science fiction drama that takes place almost entirely aboard the spaceship Pushpak 634A. The unique thing about Cargo is that it takes up a belief from Hindu mythology, but twists it to give it a futuristic touch. Both the demons who are engaged in the rebirth of the dead people look like regular people.
The trailer ends on a thought-provoking note – we think everything is over when a person dies. But is that really the case? Prahastha leaves us with the ponderous words – “Nothing is gone forever. Some things remain…. always”.
The trailer for Cargo hits the high notes of intrigue and inventiveness, amping up anticipation for the movie.
Cargo premieres on Netflix on 9th September. Have a look at the trailer below –
