The trailer for Netflix original film “Kaali Khuhi” starring Shabana Azmi, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Satyadeep Mishra and Riva Arora is out. The horror film is set in rural Punjab where brutal century old tradition that turned into a curse is back.
The trailer begins with a family of three – husband (Satyadeep Mishra), wife (Sanjeeda Sheikh) and their 10 year old daughter Shivnagi (Riva Arora) – going to their village in Punjab to visit the girl’s grandmother (Shabana Azmi) who is sick but that doesn’t exactly seem to be the whole truth. The young Shivnagi befriends a village girl who tells her that the house she is going to live in is strange but Shivnagi doesn’t understand any of it until later.
Things start getting strange pretty soon and the wife wants them to return but the husband doesn’t want to. Meanwhile Shivnagi is scared with the horrific visions she has had about which she tells her grandmother.
And then we get a glimpse of all the unnatural dark things happening in the village. Some people are seen dropping a baby wrapped in a white cloth into a well. The events that follow are all spine-chillingly scary. The curse is back.
“The grimy past of the village in Punjab has come back to haunt its dwellers. Female infanticide and prejudice have taken a toll on the spirit of the village in the form of mysterious deaths of its residents.” Now, it has all fallen on the shoulders of the little Shivnagi to “fight this ominous presence and save her family.”
Kaali Khuhi on Netflix has been directed by Terrie Samundra and stars legendary actor Shabana Azmi, Riva Arora, Satyadeep Mishra, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Leela Samson in the lead roles. The film has been produced by Ramon Chibb and Anku Pande.
