The trailer just dropped for Netflix’s new Indian Original movie, Mrs Serial Killer. This one’s got big names associated with it – and hence, more expectations. Additionally, it has a lot at stake for its streaming platform Netflix too, which hasn’t had a resounding hit in any of the Indian Original movies it has released this year, save, to some extent, Kiara Advani-starrer, Guilty.
The trailer showcases leading lady Jacqueline Fernandez like we’ve never seen her before. Cold, calculating and deliberately unhinged, she dons the persona of a cold-blooded serial killer to save the skin of her husband, played by Manoj Bajpayee, who’s proven guilty and wrongfully put into jail for the serial murders of six young girls.
A character in the movie, played by Darshan Jariwala, points her to her only hope to save her husband – commit another murder in exactly the same way as the unknown serial killer, which will prove beyond doubt that the serial killer is still on the loose.
Only thing is that the murderer tortures the young girls before he murders them. Will Shona Mukherjee be able to carry out her plan?
The premise is edgy and the plan, bizarre. The trailer brings in the right element of chilling, dangerous and suspenseful to the plot. Mohit Raina’s character is enigmatic and enticing – try as you might, you don’t know what thoughts tick behind that handsome visage. He plays the police officer in charge of the murder investigations, who lands up in a weird cat-and-mouse chase with Fernandez’s character.
The trailer leaves you with the feeling that the movie is more of psychological horror than a regular serial-killer whodunit. There’s more than enough emphasis on games of the mind and the ensuing enigma, than the story of a woman determined to save her man by any means.
Manoj Bajpayee doesn’t have much of a presence in the trailer, which is dominated by Jacqueline and Mohit Raina’s characters. The trailer sets the perfect tone of what is to follow in the actual movie.
Mrs Serial Killer is produced by Farah Khan and directed by Shirish Kunder. It arrives on Netflix on 1st May 2020.
