‘Chaos Walking’ is an upcoming American-Candian film which is based on the trilogy books of the same name, written by Patrick Ness. Christopher Ford and Patrick Ness wrote the screenplay for this young-adult, sci-fi action adventure thriller, and the trailer shows a lot of promise.
The trailer starts off with Ridley’s character, Viola, crash landing on a planet on a space shuttle, at a place that is not far from the village of men. A group of scouts led by the village leader David Prentiss, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen search the crash-site. After not finding anything except for a weird silence around the area, the rest of the scouts return to the village. Tom Holland’s character, Todd lingers around fascinated by the silence and unexpectedly meets Viola.
We quickly understand that this is a completely different world immediately based on Todd and Viola’s interaction. Every man’s thoughts can be heard out loud on this planet which creates a cacophony of sounds, which is called “The Noise” by the villagers. When Todd meets Viola, he is surprised for two reasons – he has never met a girl before in his life and the girl’s thoughts aren’t projected out like his own.
We then get a conversation between Viola and David, in which the latter informs the former that all the women on the planet are dead. We get a montage of shots featuring multiple characters with the noise around them and the beautiful planet. We find out that the men have some mysterious power granted by the Noise and Todd is supposedly to have received the strongest power amongst them.
We are then shown that both Todd and Viola are running away from something and through a montage of scenes, we see them running through a forest and going on a river on a boat. Prentiss is seen to be one of the chasers, who is trying to keep Todd and Viola apart.
The movie was supposed to release back in 2018, but the initial end product was not well-received by test audiences. Due the prior commitments of Ridley and Holland to Star Wars: ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ respectively, the film couldn’t undergo reshoots till April 2019 with an aditional 15 million USD added to the budget.
The film will also star Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, David Oyelowo, Kurt Sutter, Oscar Jaenada and Marc Primeau in prominent roles. Doug Davison, Allison Shearmur, Erwin Stoff and Alison Winter will produce the movie with Doug Liman directing the film.
The film will release theatrically on January 22nd, 2020, which will be distributed by Lionsgate. Watch the trailer for the film down below:
