After the encouraging success of its debut troika of original series, Asur, Marzi and The Raikar Case, Voot Select is all set to release its latest original series, Illegal. The streamer has released the trailer of Illegal, along with revealing its release date, which is 12th May.
The trailer unveils the barely-hidden truths of the Indian judicial system, which everyone knows, but few dare to depict on screen. The trailer is a disturbing montage of hard-hitting sequences, unleashed in a succession of unnerving shots – of justice being sacrificed at the altar of greed. Black-adorned Legal illegals in the series ruthlessly murder the truth to give life to an alternate narrative — a narrative that suits their needs and greed, to twist the verdict their way – justice be damned.
Actor extraordinaire Piyush Mishra leads the pack of unscrupulous lawyers, with Akshay Oberoi and Satyadeep Mishra following in his footsteps – willingly or not, remains to be seen when the series drops on Voot Select. Neha Sharma is the only lawyer shown to have scruples with towing falsehoods – and she has to pay for it – she’s heckled, her face is smeared with some vile stuff by protesting masses, and she has to bear the brunt of standing up to her spineless colleagues.
Two high-profile cases are in the spotlight in the narrative – one that happened 15 years ago, with the supposed-convict — Kubbra Sait, in a never-seen-before avatar — languishing in a high-security prison since then.
The second, and current, case forms the primary narrative, and it is somehow connected to the 15-year-old case, and Neha Sharma’s character determines to get to the bottom of the truth of both. With so much at stake, the going, of course, will never be easy. That is what the trailer seeks to convey, besides promising that Illegal will certainly be a compelling watch.
Illegal is written by Reshu Nath and directed by Sahir Raza, both well-respected names in the entertainment industry. It is produced by Samar Khan and Irada Entertainment, and Sameer Arya has helmed the cinematography.
Illegal arrives on Voot Select on 12th May. Have a look at the trailer below –
