It is not uncommon to find hilarious pieces of cinema playing off of the misfortunes of the characters. Perhaps, the entire comedy genre is built off of the hilarity that follows misadventures. Case in point: ‘Dumb and Dumber’, ‘The Hangover’, ‘De Dana Dan’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Nanban’, ‘Aranmanai’, ‘Bro Daddy’, and well, a practically endless list of titles and names.
Invoking laughter in audiences at the expense of the unfortunate lives of the characters on screen is yet another Malayalam film ‘Grrr’. Inspired by true events, the comedy feature follows the misguided adventures of a group of thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies who unbeknownst to them at first, end up finding themselves trapped in the thick of a wild cat sanctuary. The root cause of all the problems in the film: one drunk friend.
Nevertheless, what ensues is a straightforward, hardly complex storyline that unfurls with a few laughs peppered here and there. The Jay K directorial stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kunchacko Boban, Rajesh Madhavan, and more, and is all set to stream exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar from August 20 onwards.
While the family drama lacks acting and directing prowess, the film is a one-time entertainer that seems to be brought to life by the scary presence of a huge lion.
