Trigger Warning Triggers Racist Alligations On Netflix

Over the years, Netflix has developed a complex relationship with its viewers. Though the red and black brand is becoming an irreplaceable part of their lives, fans also have reasons to dislike it at times. Especially when it comes to the “woke” side of Netflix, many fans do not support it. But this time, Netflix is being criticized not for its woke agendas, but for accusations of promoting racism.

A number of viewers are calling Netflix racist and claim that the platform is promoting racism through a film like Trigger Warning.

Here’s a brief overview of the plot: The Swann family’s illegal arms trade operation is exposed when Parker, an investigator, returns to Creation after her father’s suspicious death. Discovering their involvement, she confronts and kills Ezekiel and Elvis Swann. Jesse, the sheriff, ultimately kills himself. Parker survives, avenges her father, and uncovers the military depot used for smuggling, bringing an end to the Swanns’ reign and moving on with her life.

To give fans a taste of the action, Netflix posted a preview on X (formerly Twitter), which not only did negative advertising for the show but also backfired strongly, leaving fans extremely upset.

Trigger Warning features several scenes of violence against Arabs, including a scene where a group of Americans hide in aid trucks to shoot and kill Arabs. While this might just be part of the plot or storyline, fans are extremely upset with Netflix’s choice.

The film even has subtitles featuring phrases like “terrorist in Arabic,” which, although perhaps not intentionally racist, is not being received positively by fans.

People are not only reacting politically, but they are also calling it a part of Zionist ideology. The industry is already divided on the Israel-Palestine debate, as the issue in the Middle East is as contentious as ever.

Now, who should be blamed for this?

In our opinion, people might be being too harsh. It’s just a film, and no film can please everyone. Though the Middle East is not politically stable right now, showing Arabs being attacked in the film won’t influence the political scenario of the countries. If it does influence any viewers, they should be blamed, not Netflix.

This isn’t about normalizing these things, but being offended by a movie, especially one that will be easily forgotten, is just an easy way to take a shot at OTT platforms. Life is much bigger than a film on OTT, and viewers shouldn’t be so easily offended by it.

If a film features rape, that doesn’t mean it normalizes rape. If a film showcases misogyny, it doesn’t mean it wants to normalize it. Viewers need to understand that.

Trigger Warning is not a good film; you can easily skip it. But bashing it for all the wrong reasons is something viewers can stop doing. Being overly sensitive or “woke” can be detrimental too.
