True Crime Documentaries: Netflix India’s Ticket To Win OTT War?

Netflix India is replicating its face value from the international crime documentaries by making India’s very own documentaries. Some awesome examples are ‘House Of Secrets: The Burari Deaths’, ‘Indian Predator: The Diary Of A Serial Killer‘ and ‘Indian Predator: The Butcher Of Delhi‘.

Netflix continues to hold the crown of the ultimate destination for documentaries. Documentaries like ‘Conversations With A Killer’, ‘The Tinder Swindler’, ‘Night Stalker’ and ‘American Stalker’ have impressed viewers and Netflix has always led the way in this genre internationally.

Crime documentaries are a new field in Indian OTT and not many platforms are dealing with this right now. Netflix India is taking this as an opportunity to create an edge and stay a lot further than the rest of the companies. Amazon Prime Video is said to have invested largely on crime documentaries in India but no update of any release or streaming date has been given so far. Netflix on the other hand is streaming more shows like ‘Crime Stories: India Detectives’.

Crime and serial killer documentaries did not belong to the mainstream genres in India till now. But they surely have a market and the huge success of ‘The House Of Secrets’ proves that. The more recent ‘Indian Predator’ is being applauded and received with much excitement.

There is a huge space to cover in crime documentaries in India and with no other platform doing anything in the field Netflix India is leading the way and undoubtedly doing a great job.
