Amazon Prime Video has been everywhere in the past few days – on social media, international news, local news, releasing new series, etc. Amazon Prime’s recent political thriller web series was marred with controversy for its depiction of Hindu Gods, while their hit film from 2020, Soorarai Pottru has been creating Oscar Buzz. With Thalapathy Vijay’s Master coming to Amazon, twitter has been buzzing the past few weeks. And with the recent multiple wins by TVF’s Panchayat at the Flyx Filmfare OTT Awards 2020, twitter has once again come to life – asking the show creators and the OTT giant regarding a potential season 2 for the much beloved series.
To those who may have missed it (how, though), Panchayat is an Indian comedy web series which premiered on Amazon Prime Video back in April 2020. The series was produced by The Viral Fever (the aforementioned TVF) and it follows an engineering graduate who goes to a remote village Phulera of Uttar Pradesh to work as a Panchayat secretary due to lack of better job options. Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, and Biswapati Sarkar play prominent figures in this rural-based comedy series. Chandan Kumar and Tamojit Das wrote the script for Panchayat while Deepak Kumar Mishra directed the 8-part series.
We do not know if Panchayat is just a mini-series or part of something bigger, but we do know that there can be more to the series if the show runners wish to write about it. The series follows the protagonist going around, fixing each problem in the village one-at-a-time, slowly gaining attention and respect among the villagers. The series ended on a comedic cliff-hanger, which can be either viewed as a good ending or something that needs to be taken care of.
The first and only season of the Panchayat is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Check out the over-zealous tweets from twitterati asking for the second season of the web series down below:
