Earlier this month, two Telugu language Indian films were released in theatres in consecutive weeks. Both these movies have garnered positive feedback from critics and audiences alike. And now, these two Telugu films have made a mark on IMDb’s coveted list comprising the highest rated top 250 Indian movies of all time. And these two titles are none other than ‘Sita Ramam’ and ‘Karthikeya 2’.
‘Karthikeya’ sequel ‘Karthikeya 2’ has made an impressive debut on IMDb and currently holds 185th rank on the coveted list. On the other hand, ‘Sita Ramam’ is not far behind and holds 210th rank on IMDb. The IMDb user ratings for ‘Karthikeya 2’ and ‘Sita Ramam’ are 8.3 and 7.9, respectively.
Last week, we had informed our readers that the critically acclaimed period romantic drama ‘Sita Ramam’ had also cracked the top 50 international narrative feature films list of 2022 on the Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd.
Besides ‘Sita Ramam’ and ‘Karthikeya 2’, other films from 2022 on the top-rated Indian movies IMDb list are ‘777 Charlie’ (Rank 18), ‘Vikram’ (Rank 44), ‘Major’ (Rank 158), ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ (Rank 1), ‘Jana Gana Mana’ (Rank 113), ‘KGF-2’ (Rank 125), ‘Kaun Pravin Tambe?’ (Rank 107), ‘RRR’ (Rank 182), and ‘Hridayam’ (Rank 202).
About the films:
Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, ‘Sita Ramam’ is a period romantic drama that is narrated in two timelines around two decades apart – 1964 and 1985. The story follows an orphaned Army man Lieutenant Ram (played by Dulquer Salmaan), who gets a mysterious love letter from a woman named Sita (Mrunal Thakur). But when he writes a letter to Sita, it does not reach her. Cut to 1985, a Pakistani student Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna) gets involved in Ram and Sita’s love story and sets out to deliver the long-lost letter. ‘Sita Ramam’ will stream on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform after completing its theatrical run.
Helmed by Chandoo Mondeti, the adventure thriller sequel carries forward the story of the protagonist Dr. Karthikeya (played by Nikhil Siddhartha). On his visit to the ancient city Dwaraka, he gets involved with the killing of an archaeologist and attempts to unearth the mystery behind it. The movie also features Anupama Parameswaran and Anupam Kher in important roles. ‘Karthikeya 2’ is expected to stream on the Zee5 OTT platform after completing its theatrical run.
