Under the Banner of Heaven Teaser: It’s Faith V/S Morality

Starring 2022 Oscar Nominee Andrew Garfield and ‘ Normal People ‘ fame Daisy Edgar Jones and inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer, investigative crime drama Under the Banner of Heaven released its first look teaser. Here’s what we feel about it.

We are introduced to a visibly distressed Andrew Garfield, a police detective assessing a crime scene which then snaps next to a blood spilt floor. His voice-over confesses about working on a double-murder case to someone we are not shown. Very reminiscent of True Detective and even the latest Mare of Easttown, Under the Banner of Heaven also adopts a sepia-grey tone to it’s visuals. The production design and cinematography excellence shines through and through each and every frame. The one minute teaser in itself is an Andrew Garfield show all the way. The actor who is on a professional high following his Oscar nomination for Best Actor for an incredibly moving performance in Tick Tick Boom! and extended cameo in blockbuster Spiderman: No Way Home, seems to have set his eyes on an emmy nomination with this one. However we are not shown much of Daisy Edgar Jones in the teaser, which we hope is a package left for later.

The limited crime drama series centres around a mormon detective as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family. Andrew Garfield stars as LDS elder Detective Pyre, Daisy Edgar-Jones plays Brenda, a young, faithful Mormon who is the victim of the murder.

Academy Award winning screen-writer Dustin Lance Black writes and executive produces the show with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. With dates not revealed, this crime drama is set to debut on hulu this year. Well, Who doesn’t love a well made crime drama? We are very excited for the show. Are you?
