The latest Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer took some mere minutes to take the entire world by storm, thanks to Jim Carrey’s return as the deranged scientist Dr. Robotnik and the arrival of Shadow (voiced by the great Keanu Reeves) to the live-action Sonic film franchise. Let’s be honest, the trailer completely belonged to Shadow. The character’s mammoth-sized prominence accompanied by Reeves’ solid voice work was enough to steal the spotlight from other characters in the trailer, even from the charming and energetic blue anthropomorphic titular hedgehog. However, we also witnessed Kyrsten Ritter (or should we say our beloved Jessica Jones?) in the clip, which must have been shocking for many viewers.
Ritter’s casting was confirmed in February 2024, allowing her to join the threequel’s cast – James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, Natasha Moore, Shemar Moore, and Idris Elba. Soon after her casting was finalised, the rumours about Ritter voicing Rogue the Bat started popping up on social media. However, the latest Sonic 3 trailer certainly tells a whole different story.
Ritter will be seen playing Captain Rockwell in the forthcoming Sonic entry. But we have a very little idea about who exactly Captain Rockwell is. According to a theory by @Sonic1News, Ritter’s character could be a G.U.N agent, pretty similar to Topaz who is Rouge’s human partner from Sonic X.

That’s indeed an intriguing theory! G.U.N. (Guardian Units of Nations) is a prominent organization in the Sonic universe that often interacts with anthropomorphic characters. A human Captain Rockwell could be a high-ranking G.U.N. agent, similar to Topaz. And we can see Ritter channeling some of Jessica Jones’ straight-faced, tough, and no-bullshit persona while playing Captain Rockwell in Sonic 3. If this theory turns out true, then we may also see the movie franchise exploring more of the Human-Mobian dynamic in the future.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is slated for a global theatrical release on December 20. Stay tuned for more updates. Stay tuned for more updates.
