If you have been using the first generation Amazon Fire TV to stream Netflix on your television you might not be able to do so from next month.
Netflix has informed selected users via email about discontinuing of the app from June 2nd on older generation of Fire TV devices, these include Fire TV, the Fire TV Stick, and the Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote control.
As per reports, the email says, “According to our usage data, you have used Netflix on a first-generation Fire TV streaming media player in the past 12 months. Netflix will discontinue support for these streaming media players on June 2, 2025.”
These older Fire Tv models were first launched in 2014 and Amazon has stopped giving technical support (software or security update) for them for quite some time now.
While Netflix hasn’t stated any specific reason for ending it’s support on the said devices, it’s likely because these devices do not support the new audio and video quality streaming standards of Netflix, specially those provided in its premium plans.
If you are one of those using a first gen Fire TV device and wish to continue using Netflix, it’s time to upgrade.
