Uppu Kappurambu: Prime Video Breaks 2.5-Year Drought

After waiting for more than two and a half years, Telugu audiences are finally getting an original film on Prime Video. The new film, Uppu Kappurambu, starring Keerthy Suresh, will premiere on July 4. This is a big moment because the last Telugu original on the platform was Ammu, which came out way back in 2022. Since then, Prime Video seemed to have strangely distant with the Telugu market when it came to original films. But now, with Uppu Kappurambu, things might just be changing.

The film is set in a village during the 1990s. It tells the story of a community facing a strange but serious problem. There isn’t enough space for burials. Sounds unusual, right? But instead of being heavy or serious, the film uses humour and satire to explore this issue. It’s meant to be silly, funny, and emotional at the same time. The makers say they wanted to talk about real problems in a lighthearted, cartoon-like way.

Along with Keerthy Suresh, the cast includes Suhas, Talluri Rameshwari, and Shatru. The film is directed by Ani I V Sasi and written by Vasanth Maringanti. It will be available in Telugu, with dubbed versions in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Prime Video seems to be making a fresh attempt to connect with South Indian viewers. Let’s just hope this is not a one-time thing and that we get to see more original Telugu content in the near future.
