In a recent development, the three main movie theatre chains in the United States have allowed moviegoers not to wear masks while visiting these theatres, provided that, they are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
The three prominent movie theatres namely AMC Entertainment, Cinemark, and Regal Cinemas have reportedly mentioned on their respective official websites that moviegoers visiting these theatres who are not fully vaccinated will be asked to wear masks besides adhering to other coronavirus protocols like social distancing, etc.
For instance, AMC Entertainment had stated on its official website that “In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are not required for guests who are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated, we ask that you continue to wear a mask throughout the theater unless actively enjoying food or drinks.”
Similarly, the other two prominent theatres in the US namely Cinemark and Regal Cinemas have also updated their respective website regarding the modified guidelines on mask policy, etc.
CDC is the national public health agency of the United States and stands for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. It is mention-worthy that around two weeks earlier, CDC had said that fully vaccinated people may not wear masks in any setting.
While in the case of Indian multiplex chains, the situation is not the same. Different States are presently under different lockdown guidelines, depending on the pandemic situation. In some states, the lockdown guidelines are applicable until the end of this month. While in some other places, the lockdown guidelines are different.
When we visited PVR’s official website (for the Delhi-NCR region), under the ‘Now Showing’ section, it was stated that “As per COVID-19 prevention advisory issued by the State Governments, Cinemas will remain shut on a temporary basis, till further notice. We look forward to serving you and offering you a world-class movie-going experience, very soon.”
Similarly, the homepage of the Inox’s website had the following message “To help put an end to the spread of COVID-19 our services will remain suspended for the time being. We’ll be back shortly.”
The resumption of movie theatres along with other services will depend on the updated guidelines of the respective States, which in turn will depend on the pandemic situation in these regions. While the Central and State Governments are working hard to control the situation, we are hoping and praying that the situation gets better soon and there is no further loss of lives because of the pandemic
