Vadivelu’s ‘Naai Sekar Returns’ OTT Rights Bagged By Netflix!

In a surprise announcement, Netflix’s latest acquisition is the post-theatrical streaming rights of the Vadivelu starrer ‘Naai Sekar Returns’, a spin-off of his character from ‘Thalai Nagaram’ (2006).

‘Naai Sekar Returns’ is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language dark comedy film written and directed by Suraj. The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan in his first collaboration with Vadivelu and Suraaj. Interestingly, the film is also Vadivelu’s comeback film after five years.

When the red card issued to Vadivelu was lifted, the actor announced his next film with director Suraj. The film was bankrolled by Allirajah Subaskaran under the banner Lyca Productions and was then expected to be titled ‘Naai Sekar’ but went for an alteration in the title due to the title being registered by another production house, AGS Entertainment. Though efforts were made to get the title, the negotiations did not bear fruit and the current title was fixed.

Vadivelu and director Suraj first united for ‘Thalai Nagaram’, and the comic character Naai Sekar in the film was a huge hit, leading to the idea of giving the character a solo film. The film also stars Sivaangi Krishnakumar, Redin Kingsley, Shivani Narayanan, Anandaraj, and Munishkanth.

The acclaimed actor has signed on for more projects to be released in the future, both as lead and comedian. In August 2021, over the phone interview with Puthiya Thalaimurai TV, Vadivelu had confirmed that his ban was lifted and he has agreed to 5 films with Lyca Productions, reportedly the first of which is ‘Naai Sekar Returns’. He also mentioned that it feels like it is his first film and this is his rebirth in Cinema. Besides the film, the announcement of his role in the much-awaited political thriller ‘Maamannan’ alongside Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil, and Keerthi Suresh has also generated huge buzz among fans.
