2021 has been a good year for boxing movies given the popularity Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Toofan’ (Hindi) and Arya’s ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ (Tamil) received. Both these films released on Amazon Prime Video with a small gap between them but gained success in their own rings.
And now it’s time to witness the thrills of a boxing match on big screens with Varun Tej starrer ‘Ghani’ (Telugu), set to release in theatres this Diwali. Sharing the news on social media along with a new poster for the film, Tej wrote, “Let’s light up the theatres this Diwali with #Ghani 🥊🥊🥊”
Kiran Korrapati has written and directed the sports drama film that also stars Saiee Manjrekar (‘Dabangg 3’), Sunil Shetty (‘Dhadkan’, ‘Border’), Jagapathi Babu (‘Shubh Lagnam’, Maavichiguru’), Upendra (‘S/O Satyamurthy’) and Naveen Chandra (‘Bhanumathi & Ramakrishna’, ‘Miss India’) among others.
The film’s title was revealed in January this year and later in the same month the makers announced 30th July, 2021 as its release date. The ongoing pandemic delayed the film’s release and now it is set to hit cinemas this Diwali.
Sidhu Mudda and Allu Bobby have produced ‘Ghani’ under the banner of Renaissance Pictures and Allu Bobby Company. George C. Williams has handled the film’s cinematography and its music has been composed by S. Thaman.
While the previous two boxing dramas of 2021 (‘Toofan’ & ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’) made their way to OTT, ‘Ghani’ will be the first among the three to go for a theatrical release. The theatres will certainly add to the overall experience such films promise to offer. No doubt that the excitement, the thrill, the drama everything scales up when viewed on a big screen.
Though it isn’t going to be easy for ‘Ghani’ as it will come face to face with Rajnikath’s ‘Annaatthe’, also releasing on Diwali. Apart from these two, many other big films like Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’, Ajith’s ‘Valimai’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’ are tentatively scheduled for Diwali release. If it happens, this Diwali will see some major clashes happening at the box office across the nation.
