Shashank Khaitan’s upcoming comedy drama movie ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ was, until now, expected to release in theatres in 2022 itself. The movie, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, features Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. However, as per the latest update, ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ will reportedly (via Bollywood Life) be getting a direct-to-OTT release instead of a theatrical one.
The decision was apparently made as Karan Johar was not willing to wait any longer for the theatrical release of ‘Govinda Naam Mera’. And since important dates for the rest of the year have already been blocked by upcoming Bollywood films, it might have seemed more viable for the stakeholders to forgo the film’s theatrical release.
Another interesting thing about ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ is that initially, Varun Dhawan was supposed to star in Shashank Khaitan’s film but that didn’t work out for certain reasons. Earlier titled ‘Mr. Lele’, ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ was later modified, and Vicky Kaushal was cast instead. Previously, Varun Dhawan had collaborated with Shashank Khaitan for ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ co-starring Alia Bhatt.
Coming back to ‘Govinda Naam Mera’, the film revolves around the life of the titular character Govinda Waghmare (Vicky Kaushal), who tries to balance his relationship with his wife Mrs. Waghmare (played by Bhumi Pednekar) and his girlfriend (played by Kiara Advani). And in doing that, Govinda’s life becomes a rigmarole of chaos and confusion leading to hilarious results.
