It has been more than a month since acclaimed filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss wrote a Twitter post welcoming music composer cum actor Vijay Antony to the director’s club as he revealed the latter’s directorial foray for his feature film directorial debut ‘Pichaikkaran 2’ / ‘Bichagadu 2’. Considering the original’s film’s success and high anticipation quotient around the sequel, A.R. Murugadoss had already tagged ‘Pichaikkaran 2’ as a potential blockbuster.
And earlier today, it was reported that the filming schedule for the sequel of one the most entertaining Tamil language films ‘Pichaikkaran’ has already commenced with an official pooja ceremony. The makers posted a photo of the sequel film’s script book which they rightly credited as ‘The Hero’.
The sequel titled ‘Pichaikkaran 2’ was announced way back in July 2020 along with its first look poster. However, it was previously reported that the film will be helmed by National Award-winning director Priya Krishnaswamy. Although Vijay Antony ostensibly never aspired to direct a film, the news of him donning the director’s hat came as a pleasant surprise last month for fans of the multi-talented actor.
Interestingly, besides being the sequel’s lead protagonist, the director, and the story writer, Vijay Antony is expected to be concurrently associated as the film’s music composer and its producer under the production banner Vijay Antony Film Corporation. So, to say that ‘Pichaikkaran 2’ is primarily the brainchild of Vijay Antony wouldn’t be an exaggeration. The actor has himself stated that the project is very close to his heart.
The parent 2016 film ‘Pichaikkaran’ was an action dramedy helmed by Sasi and revolved around an affluent business tycoon (Vijay Antony), who must save his dying mother by living a 48-day secret life as a beggar. The Telugu dubbed version of the film was released soon after with the title ‘Bichagadu’, and later in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, and Odia languages also.
