Vikram’s ‘Cobra’ released yesterday on 31st August and the makers have very soon realised their mistake. The action thriller film helmed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, ‘Cobra’ seemed too long to the viewers and has thus been cut short.
In an announcement today, ‘Cobra’ makers revealed that as per the suggestions from film goers, fans, media persons, distributors and exhibitors, the film has been trimmed by 20 minutes. The change will reflect from this evening in all shows across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala.
This move comes on heels of the negative reviews pouring for ‘Cobra’ due to its extra lengthy run time. In order to put an end to it and also entertain the audience and make the film worth their time and ticket money, the makers have taken this decision.
Every early review that came in for ‘Cobra’ had one common comment on it being extra lengthy which makes it a boring watch. Makers are hoping that the 20 minute trim will satisfy the audience and critics alike leading to better performance of the film at the box office.
‘Cobra’ follows a gripping story of a genius mathematician named Cobra (Vikram) who is known to solve most impossible crimes using maths in the most casual manner. But apart from this serious side of him he also lives a life as a simple teacher who is admired by all. But things soon turn awry when something much bigger comes at play.
Vikram stars in the titular role in ‘Cobra’ that features an ensemble cast with Srinidhi Shetty, Roshan Mathew and Sarjano Khalid making their debut in Tamil cinema and cricketer Irfan Pathan making his acting debut. The film also stars Miya George, Padampriya, Mohammad Ali Baig, Kaniha, Mirnalini Ravi, Meenakshi and K. S. Ravikumar in supporting roles.
‘Cobra’ is directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu (‘Demonte Colony’, ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’) and produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar under his Seven Screen Studios banner. Musical maestro A. R. Rahman has composed the original score and soundtrack for ‘Cobra’ with cinematography from Harish Kannan and editing by Bhuvan Srinivasan.
