In less than 12 hours, the highly-anticipated Tamil action thriller, Mahaan, will make its OTT debut on Amazon Prime Video. This movie features a multitude of stars including the Tamil superstar, Vikram, his son Dhruv, Bobby Simha, Simran and Vani Bhojan in lead roles, while Sananth, Vettai Muthukumar, Deepak Paramesh and Aadukalam Naren will appear on screen in supporting roles. While Mahaan will be the direct-to-OTT debut for a lot of these actors – most South Indians will be looking at Vikram as he follows in the footsteps of other Tamil superstars like Suriya, Dhanush and Vijay Sethupathi with this film’s OTT premiere.
Vikram or Chiyaan Vikram has had a long and illustrious career in South Indian cinema (not just in Tamil films). The prominent Kollywood actor may not have a fanbase as illustrious as Thalapathy Vijay, Kamal Hassan or Rajnikanth but he has been part of as many complex projects as the above mentioned three. He is an actor known for his prolific work, similar to Suriya and Aamir Khan and this is why we expect Mahaan to be his stepping stone into the digital market. Direct-to-OTT releases are becoming as big as theatrical releases themselves and with Vikram joining other South Indian superstars with Mahaan, we expect the OTT market to be flooded with major South Indian films soon.
Mahaan will also be the first time a father-son duo will lead an Indian direct-to-OTT released feature. The movie will be a bigger test for Vikram’s son, Dhruv, since Mahaan will not only be his first film to release directly for streaming; it will be the second film of his career, period. For now, we have to wait for the film to drop – which will happen late tonight.
Mahaan will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 10th February 2022.
