‘Vikram Vedha’ Bollywood Remake Update : Filming Begins Next Month

The Bollywood remake of superhit Tamil action-crime drama ‘Vikram Vedha‘ is all set to go on floors from the end of next month. The epic 2017 original, starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi became an instant blockbuster and received widespread critical acclaim. The Bollywood remake featuring Saif Ali Khan (as Vikram) and Hrithik Roshan (as Vedha) in the lead, will also be directed by Gayatri and Pushkar, who helmed the Tamil film. The cast also includes Radhika Apte as an Advocate and wife of Saif’s character, while it has just been confirmed that Rohit Saraf (of ‘Ludo’ & ‘Mismatched’ fame) has been roped in to play the younger brother of Hrithik’s character.

The original film starred Madhavan as Vikram, an honest cop and Vijay Sethupathi as the dreaded gangster, Vedha. The film’s plot is inspired by the Indian folktale ‘Baital Pachisi’ and based on the thin line between good and evil. Apparently, the film’s pre-production work is currently on in full swing and all shooting locations have been finalized as well. This movie marks the Bollywood debut of Tamil husband-wife, director-duo, Gayatri and Pushkar.

Both actors are done with their preliminary look tests and Hrithik is reportedly training hard these days to look the part. It’s a no-brainer that since Hrithik stars as a gangster, he will beef up for his character’s appearance, though it will be quite different from Vijay Sethupathi’s look in the original. Hrithik will play an out-and-out antagonist character after a long time, precisely the start of his career, with the films ‘Fiza’ and ‘Mission Kashmir’ in 2000. Post that, he has only done a couple of stylish conman acts in 2006’s ‘Dhoom 2’ alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai as well 2014’s ‘Bang Bang’ with Katrina Kaif.

Produced by Neeraj Pandey and Reliance Entertainment, ‘Vikram Vedha’ should most likely see an October 2022 release, with the makers aiming for the Gandhi Jayanti weekend. On the work front, apart from this film, Hrithik also has Siddharth Anand’s ‘Fighter’ with Deepika Padukone, ‘Krrish 4’ and Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ in the pipeline. As for Saif, he is awaiting the release of Aditya Chopra’s ‘Bunty aur Babli 2’ alongside Rani Mukerji and also has ‘Adipurush’ with Prabhas and Kriti Sanon as well as ‘Bhoot Police’ with Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam in lead roles.
