Fans of Pushkar and Gayatri, the hugely successful director duo behind the blockbuster Vikram Vedha, have for long been clamouring for the husband-wife team to take the plunge into the alluring world of web series. Looks like, their wish has been answered. As per media reports, Pushkar and Gayatri have been commissioned by streaming giant Amazon Prime Video to create a web series for the platform.
The web series is reportedly a thriller, a genre the duo is master of. Shoot is apparently beginning as soon as February, and the first stint of shooting will take place at a hill station.
As fans of Tamil cinema must know, Pushkar and Gayatri have directed the 2017 Tamil hit, Vikram Vedha, which was headlined by R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi.
Pushkar and Gayatri have recently started their own production house, called ‘Wallwatcher Films’. The web series may be created under its aegis. No name or official announcement has been made as yet for the web series. The cast and crew too is yet to be finalised. Some of the names that are said to have been signed are Kathir, Aishwarya Rajessh, Sriya Reddy, Prem and Sathyaraj or Parthiepan.
The duo is also gearing up for the Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha. We hope the Amazon Prime Video web series is completed quickly by the duo until then. Amazon Prime Video has recently become quite aggressive in spreading its wings in the regional market. It has been acquiring and streaming well known movies in regional Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Kannada, much more than rival Netflix. This move by the OTT platform seems to be a step in the direction of further capturing regional markets.
