Vikram Vedha VS PS-1: A Clash That Should Not Have Taken Place

The highly anticipated box-office clash between mega-budget projects, Vikram Vedha and Ponniyin Selvan 1, is underway and fans cannot keep their calm about it. Cinephiles want to know which movie will emerge victorious in this battle. But here’s the catch! The clashes between big-budget films usually keep the producers in low spirits. And we all know why.

Both movies have great acting talents. On one hand, we have Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus, treasuring performers like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, and many more. On the other hand, Vikram Vedha possesses the terrific leading duo of Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

Trade insiders have revealed that PS-1 may get a staggering opening of 30-35 crores across all languages. We can also add another 18-20 crores from overseas collections in this scenario, taking the worldwide Day 1 collection up to 50-60 crores. Fans have shown a spectacular response to the epic period drama, especially in South Indian states.

However, things are not looking that great for Vikram Vedha. According to Bollywood Life, the film may collect 15-16 crores on its first day, which is very low compared to PS-1. Yes, the latest remake of the 2017 Tamil film has received positive reviews, with critics praising the performances, action sequences, writing, and direction. But the lack of hype, less number of screens, and the ongoing ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend will affect the film’s financial performance.

As for Ponniyin Selvan, the movie could have gotten a much better opening in North Indian states if it was not facing direct competition from Vikram Vedha. Also, it saw very little promotion in this part of the country. Undoubtedly, this massive clash will affect the collections of both films, especially Pushkar-Gayathri’s latest action thriller.

Although, these two projects are nothing short of boons for Indian cinemas. The success of Brahmastra turned out to be a huge sigh of relief for domestic theatres. And we can expect pretty much the same from Vikram Vedha and PS-1 as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
