Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ Gets a New Release Date

National Film Award-winning filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s eagerly anticipated directorial film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has just got a new release date. The film, which was previously slated to release on 26th January 2022, is now scheduled to release in theatres on 11th March 2022, as per the latest update by the makers.

Written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, ‘The Kashmir Files’ would narrate the sensitive subject matter pertaining to the exodus of Kashmiris Hindus, also known as Kashmiri Pandits, during the 1990s period due to the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. The film is being touted as an on-screen portrayal of the Kashmir Genocide bearing the tagline ‘Right to Justice’.

This is not the first time a film has been made on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir Valley. Because exactly two years back, eminent filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s well-executed romantic drama ‘Shikara’ also got its theatrical release. The movie revolved around a simple Kashmiri Pandit couple who eventually become the victims of the insurgency.

Coming back to Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, the movie features veteran actors Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Pallavi Joshi alongside ‘The Family Man’ actor Darshan Kumar in important roles.

Prior to ‘The Kashmir Files’, the filmmaker had helmed India’s first crowd-sourced thriller – another star-studded film titled ‘The Tashkent Files’. The film revolved around the death of former Indian prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The film featured Shweta Basu Prasad, Naseeruddin Shah, and Mithun Chakraborty amongst others. Vivek Agnihotri had bagged the National Film Award for the film in the Best Screenplay/Dialogues category.

Besides ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Tashkent Files’, Vivek Agnihotri had directed several other films including the political thriller ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’, erotic thriller ‘Hate Story’, sports drama ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’, and crime thriller ‘Chocolate’.
