Voot, the OTT platform that until now survived on advertising revenue to offer free content to its viewers, has taken the paid-subscription plunge. Today evening, it launched a new, exclusive streaming service called Voot Select.
The new platform will take the paid-subscription route to give its viewers a stellar storytelling experience. In doing so, the streaming platform has taken on established paid-subscription streamers such as Eros Now, SonyLIV, Netflix, Hotstar, ZEE5 and ALTBalaji.
Voot Select was launched with the premiere of two new Voot Original series which will stream exclusively on the new platform. One is the crime and forensics thriller Asur, with Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti as leads. The second series is Marzi, a drama about consent, starring Rajeev Khandelwal and Aahana Kumra.
The new platform comes with attractive subscription packages – Rs 99 for one month, Rs 999 for the annual subscription, and an inaugural offer of Rs 499 for the annual subscription. The last is avail for a limited time frame only.
Voot Select has specifically kept subscription rates to match those of other Indian OTT players such as SonyLIV, Eros Now, ZEE5, ALTBalaji, etc.
Over a dozen Original web shows that are slated to stream exclusively on Voot Select are in various stages of development.
Two were launched today to give a roaring start to the content lineup on the OTT platform. Included in the list of the under-development Original series are several Tamil series, since regional is such a crucial market for any streaming platform today.
Paid subscribers have another benefit – they can watch all Viacom 18 TV shows one day earlier than their official telecast on television. Viacom 18 owns both Voot and Voot Select.
