A few times production houses themselves are responsible for the fiasco of a film. In the case of King Richard, the same has happened. On the occasion of the Oscars, Will Smith won the award for best actor in a leading role.
Even apart from the Oscar, King Richard has had major wins in major award shows all across the globe. But Warner Bros decided to release the film in theatres instead of on an OTT platform.
Although Warner Bros has always sucked in Indian theatres, we saw the examples recently in The Batman and The Matrix Resurrections. But the most ridiculous decision has to be the case of King Richard.
The makers decided to release this film opposite RRR which itself is nothing less than a Tsunami. Needless to say, nobody even noticed the film against RRR and it received a terrible response in the theatres.
Imagine a situation where King Richard would be streaming on any OTT platform, it would have created a benchmark record of views just like the Indians rushed to watch Parasite when it won the best picture award.
Long story short, it is absolutely baffling that King Richard was released in theatres and that too against RRR. Everyone knew the insane hype except the decision-makers in Warner Bros India. The theatrical performance of the film may improve after the award, But stay tuned as we will keep updating any progress regarding the OTT release of King Richard.
