Warning: The Danger Lurking In The Depths Of Free OTT Subscriptions!

Free OTT subscriptions are enticing but dangerous. Today, offering free subscriptions is the most common and popular trick used by cyber criminals. Being able to use OTT without paying a single penny sounds exciting but what if we tell you it comes at the cost of your privacy?

The offers are in the form of discounted rates or free for a certain period. Such illegal sites also provide a link to access the above offer and those links come with dangerous viruses like Trojan. Trojans enter user’s device, capture confidential data and also destroy some files. If you are trying to gain access to various OTT platforms via unofficial means, beware, you’re their target!

According to a recent study by Securelist, India has consistently been among the top five countries that are being targeted by such criminals. Here are the stats:
1) Hulu – 4.9 percent of this type.
2) Netflix – fake Netflix offers constitutes 7.9 percent, making our country the third most affected.
3) Amazon Prime Video – a whopping 17.8 percent, securing India second rank.
4) Disney+Hotstar – 7.7 percent of these type of attacks.

Global Cyber Security Forum chairman, Sai Krishna revealed he once came across an advertisement on a popular social media platform which was using the logo and name of a real and well known website. It was obviously fake and run by cyber thieves. “I immediately checked the address of the advertisement and found it to be fake. Cyber criminals run these websites for a few days to collect money and then take the sites down,” said Krishna.
