Filmmaker Prasanth Varma, despite showing his directorial mettle in two credible movies like Awe and Kalki, somehow hasn’t tasted box-office success in his attempts to date. What’s disappointing is that both movies couldn’t hit the bullseye even with solid content and being driven by impressive filmmaking and strong technicalities.
However, it has come to our notice that Kalki that explores the Dashavataram concept of a God taking different avatars to bring peace into the world, was initially planned as a web series. The script, borrowed from a portal called kahaniya.com, was all set to be helmed for the digital medium, with the content-spanning four hours.
With the web series refusing to take off for unknown reasons, it is believed that Prasanth Varma pitched the story to Rajasekhar. The actor reportedly took a liking to it, after which the script was condensed for the film format. Maybe, the web series idea was better after all? Given the potent story, it’s definitely a golden opportunity lost.
