Watch This Bengali Drama On Hoichoi

We all love our fair share of political dramas and comedies, from House of Cards to Kaithal, we enjoy binge-watching them. But most of these political dramas represent the top cream of society, leaving out the very roots of it. That’s where something like Panchayat comes in, focusing on the politics of rural areas. And Pradhan comes to that category.

Let me introduce you to Dharmapur.

A village that seemed like a typical one—calm and beautiful—but was crushed by the acting ‘Pradhan,’ Jatileshwar. He acted like a monarch as the village couldn’t conduct an election for 15 straight years because he didn’t allow any opposition to get nominated.

But then came Deepak Pradhan, a police officer who represents good as he fights off Jatileshwar and his army of evil. Circling around the classic concept of good vs. evil, both agents clash, and in the end, good prevails.

Sounds cliché and cringe? To some extent, it is, but not every time do you feel like watching masterpieces that drain you. Sometimes you need something light so you can cheer for the good.

In the film, Paran Bandopadhyay delivers one of the most amazing performances in recent memory. Plus, there’s Dev, who returns to his retro “good guy” police officer role, delivering a solid performance. But the star of the film is undoubtedly Anirban Chakrabarty, who started late yet shines like the sun; his career is something we all need to cherish.

There are a few shortcomings. The music does feel annoying once in a while, mostly because there’s too much of it. Even in terms of acting, some scenes look pretty commercial, but as we just stated, not every film has to be an ‘art film.’
