Watch This Brilliant, Engaging Netflix Drama For Its Magnificent Lead

A single young woman, when determined, can do it all and overcome any and every challenge that comes her way. And when that very woman is a mother, her capabilities are nothing less than superpowers as she nurtures, provides and protects her kid, while dealing with the problems life throws at her. The limited Netflix drama we recommend you today is the very definition of this and more.

We are talking about Netflix’s highly acclaimed limited drama series ‘Maid’ created by Molly Smith Metzler. Inspired by Stephanie Land’s memoir ‘Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive’ the story focuses on a young mother Alex (Margaret Qualley) who leaves her abusive husband Sean (Nick Robinson) overnight with their baby.

‘Maid’ subsequently tracks her journey as she struggles to provide for her daughter by getting a job cleaning houses. She keeps on moving, through bureaucratic chaos, her ex’s antagonism and her mother’s (Andie MacDowell) challenges with undiagnosed mental illness, toward the goal of starting a new life for herself and her daughter.

Despite being a slow burn, the ten part series is a must watch for its performances, eloquent writing, gripping screenplay and its beautifully written and executed ending. But the best part about ‘Maid’ has to be Margaret Qualley (she even received an Emmy nomination for the role).

She is absolutely brilliant as Alex and never lets the act become overly melodramatic despite ample chances for extreme melodrama. Every emotion whether it’s rage, fear, anger, love, sadness or anything else, are all subtly portrayed.

‘Maid’ on Netflix takes the viewers through layers of issues such as survival, domestic violence and more so emotional abuse and generational abuse in a very naturalistic yet engaging manner. If not for anything else do watch ‘Maid’ on Netflix for Margaret Qualley, you will not be disappointed!
