In the mood for laughs and loot? Then you gotta check out a hilarious heist movie from acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh. A maestro of the genre, his heist flicks are not only stylish but also deliver fine performances, twisty storylines, and plenty of belly-aching humor. We all know him for his iconic Ocean’s trilogy, led by George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Now, you guys should try watching one of his extremely underrated heist comedies, Logan Lucky (2017), currently available on Prime Video.
Logan Lucky revolves around a newly laid-off construction worker, Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum). He hatches a plan to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway during a NASCAR race. With his one-armed brother Clyde (Adam Driver) and a quirky crew including a grumpy safecracker, Joe Bang (Daniel Craig), they attempt the audacious heist through the speedway’s pneumatic tube system.
This heist comedy benefits immensely from Soderbergh’s signature style with fast pacing and sharp editing. Tatum and Driver shine as the bickering Logan brothers, their sibling bond offering both humor and heart. But it is Craig who steals the show as the grumpy Joe Bang. The film is fast-paced, with sharp editing and a soundtrack that perfectly complements the action. Overall, it is a fun watch!
It failed to emerge as a box-office success but received great appreciation from critics. It stands with a ‘fresh’ score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 290 certified reviews.
Logan Lucky’s supporting cast also includes talents like Riley Keough, Katie Holmes, Katherine Waterston, Dwight Yoakam, Sebastian Stan, Brian Gleeson, Jack Quaid, and Hilary Swank. Stream it on Prime Video. Enjoy!
