Rakesh Omprakash Mehra is one of the finest directors of Bollywood and he has impressed critics and audiences time and again with his masterful stories. Be it ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ or ‘Delhi 6’.
Yet, there is one film by Mehra that is not much talked about. It was a box office failure, and did not get the love it deserved. The film is ‘Mirzya’. With a superb poetic screenplay from Gulzar, ‘Mirzya’ is the story of a young man and a young woman and their love, which is destined to have a tragic end. The movie is there on Disney+Hotstar.
Like most of Mehra’s films, Mirzya too deals with a parallel story, the story of Mirza Sahiban, which is the core of the tragedy. Apart from it, the movie follows Mohnish and Suchitra, whose story ends in a similar way like Mirza and Sahiban. The lead roles are portrayed by Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyyami Kher. There are other actors like Om Puri, Anuj Choudhury, K. K. Raina etc.
Every song in the movie is a masterpiece. The lyrics are written by Gulzar himself and the music is given by the magical trio Dhankar-Ehsan-Loy. The visuals are captivating. And the frames look like paintings. Pawel Dyllus has done a wonderful job as the cinematographer.
If you are fond of romantic movies, this is a movie that you should not miss. Mirzya is, by all means, a gem of a movie and we need to appreciate such pieces of art. The movie is available to watch on Disney+Hotstar.
