Disney Holiday shorts are just too fun. And with the holidays just around the corner, it was about time Disney treated us to one. The new holiday short has been uploaded on YouTube, created by none other than Oscar-winning director Taika Watiti.
The short is titled “The Boy and the Octopus.” It follows a little kid who finds an Octopus while diving. The octopus grows attached to the young boy, and they become best friends as they binge on holiday movies and play with many of the recognizable Disney toys, like a Buzz Lightyear action figure and a lightsaber.
The octopus and kid then plan to hitch a ride on Santa’s sleigh while the Little Mermaid soundtrack plays in background. The short has every bit of the holiday spirit and childhood awe and wonder. It captures the innocent bond of the mollusk and a child, both riddled with curiosity.
It is one of the sweetest holidays’s short to come out of Disney Need. And if you weren’t feeling the Christmas spirit knocking at your doorstep, well, you won’t be able to escape it after this anymore.
Taika is known for his Oscar-winning direction of “Jojo Rabbit” and “The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.” If anyone knows how to capture the mind of a child, it is him. And although his last stint with Marvel didn’t work out that well with Thor and Thunder, we hope to see him back in Marvel again, as he is surely on gpod terms with Disney.
