WBD’s Max Joins Password Crackdown Party

Netflix is definitely the mad inventor, as when it started the event of Password Crackdown, people assumed that it would see a dip in subscribers, and other platforms wouldn’t be daring enough to follow Netflix. But put a tick to both of them, as Netflix managed to complete the crackdown event and it resulted in massive growth of the platform.

Now, Max is planning to join the party.

Prior to all these, Netflix was followed by Disney, and in recent events, Hulu managed to be a part of the club.

As per the blueprint, Warner Bros. Discovery will be doing some testing this year, and when it comes to global users, they will be launching it in 2025. “We think, relative to the scale of our business, it’s a meaningful opportunity,” stated CEO JB Perrette during the latest conference on Monday.

Now, to know more about the decision, let’s dive into the world of statistics:

Warner Bros. Discovery reported reduced streaming losses, narrowing to $55 million in Q4 2023 from $217 million a year ago. They swung to a $103 million profit for the full year compared to a $1.59 billion loss in 2022. With 1.8 million new subscribers, their DTC division reached 97.7 million total subscribers.

They aim for $1 billion DTC EBITDA in 2025, which can be a massive factor for this new decision.

When it comes to popularity, Max does have a cult following, and that too with some of the biggest television series ever. Now, Netflix always has an advantage when it comes to the raw quantity, but Max is definitely a big name when it comes to the quality of the product.

Users are already terrified by the events of Password Crackdown, and one more platform following that will definitely be a major turnoff. But as Max already has two ad-supported plans, it will be a bit lighter on the pockets of the users. It is a major problem nonetheless.
